What are the advantages of a mega-menu?

Mega-menus allow including a very big number of items. Additional segmentation allows the user to see them all simultaneously but not in an ordered, not confusing way. Besides that, a mega-menu allows including illustrative images, which would be unreasonable with a menu bar or a regular drop-down menu.
